Pinewood Cottage is the wholesale manufacturing furniture operation that evolved from years of part time kitchen and bathroom remodeling Yosh and I did before he retired from the Postal Service in 1993. In 1995 we connected with Myles Burke, the sales rep for another furniture manufacturer, and he introduced us to a number of his customers along with a trunk full of sample products. In short, they said if we built it, they would buy it. And the rest is history.
Fifteen years later, the market is changing, the shipping costs are high, and we simply don't move as fast as we used to. Rather than be committed to quantity production for wholesale purchasers, we are now directing our attention to the retail customers and our local community. We are providing the same quality unfinished products we were making for retail stores and are adding those specialty items you can't find easily elsewhere, like spoon collection shelves and custom sized quilt hangers. We offer these products nation wide and are even finishing them if our customer prefers that.
We have also opened our retail store to the community as the first phase of a dream that Yosh started when we first moved to the small community of Rosalia, Washington, located between Spokane and Pullman, home of the WSU Cougars. The dream is to fill the 10,000 sq ft of space on our property with artisans, heritage craftsmen and culinary talents that will feed the spirit, the mind and of course the stomachs of all who stop to visit this beautiful country. Right now the store carries not only our wood products, but also the original art and handcrafted products of more than 25 local vendors, ranging in age from 8 to 80. It is truly small town America at its best! For more information about Pine Creek Village, visit out blog at http://pinecreekvillage.blogspot.com/.

Pine Creek Village has two major goals: The first is to provide a center for local artisans and craftsmen to create, demonstrate, sell and teach their creative talents to the public. This is intended especially for those who have found it difficult and costly to sell their products elsewhere or who have trouble developing their ideas, but also for those who'd like a broader market for their wares. The second and essentially most important goal is to provide a centralized location (using combined marketing) that encourages visitors to stop in and browse, see and buy the great products our community has to offer, and to give us the chance to encourage them to visit on down the road, through our beautiful town and its other businesses and sites. Then to mosey on down the highway and off shoot roads through beautiful Whitman County and Palouse Scenic Byways. Getting visitors to stop by the first time is the key. We know we can bring them back again. |
